[08/04/2009] - Edvald Boasson Hagen winner of a very hard Ghent-Wevelgem

In this period of the year, the big races follow each other, Ghent-Wevelgem being today on the programme, 203 kilometres starting at Deinze, to reach the Flemish Hills after a loop in the Moeren area (Westernmost part of Belgium), passing twice over Monteberg and Kemmelberg before arriving at Wevelgem.

Rain and wind made this race particularly difficult. Immediately after the starting shot, the peloton was divided into several groups. After a 34-wheel pack broke away, the final decision was already there.

Robbie was present in the leading group, which kept together till the first ascent of Kemmel, where 14 riders made a slight gap, but they were caught at the second ascent. And then Aleksandr Kuschynski (Liquigas) and Edvald Boasson Hagen (High Road - Columbia) attacked and were not caught before the finish.

The young Norwegian (21) Edvald Boasson Hagen won over Byelorussians Aleksandr Kuschynski, Aussie Matthew Goss (Saxo Bank) completing the podium. Robbie finished 14th.
