The penultimate stage of Tour Down Under was also the hardest, 148 kilometres between Snapper Point and Willunga, 106 kilometres in line being followed by two 21 kilometres local circuits including the steep Willunga hill.
The traditional early breakaway saw seven riders ahead of the peloton, which caught them eventually in the local circuits. On Willunga hill, the peloton exploded and a 40-wheel group came to the finish. The winner was once again Allan Davis (Quick.Step), ahead of Spain's José Joaquin Rojas Gil (Caisse d'Épargne) and Swiss Martin Elmiger (AG2R La Mondiale), Robbie finished 74th in a second group.
So Davis increased his grip on the race, he will start tomorrow with 25" on Stuart O'Grady for the last stage.
