Today was the main late season's classic Paris-Brussels, over 219 kilometres between Soissons and King Baudouin Stadium in Brussels. The last 100 kilometres were on Belgian soil, with rue de Hal, Bruineput and Keperenberg on the way.
After a first attack by 14 racers, which was soon terminated, another group of ten racers, which included our Wim Vanhuffel, animated the main part of the race.
The gap reached up to 6', and, with 80 kilometres to go, the peloton began to accelerate. Only 65 kilometres further, a much thinned out peloton caught the leaders. At the Keperenberg, they were 60 racers left to fight for the bouquet.
After the regrouping, the tempo was such that no break was possible any more. The whole pack sprinted at the finish, and no one could stop our Robbie ! He was outstanding and followed by World champion Tom Boonen (Quick.Step-Innergetic) and team mate Steven De Jongh.
Robbie has bagged his second win in a row, with a total of three !!!
Bags of congratulations !!!
