Stage 4 at Giro d’Italia, the last one in Belgium, between Wanze and Hotton, distance 193 km.
The hilly route gave ideas to five men to make an early breakaway.
The peloton did not react until the gap reached 6". The reaction started, organised by Schumacher's Gerolsteiner as well as by Robbie's Davitamon-Lotto team.
The end of the story is classical; the gap was reduced during the second half of the distance, and the leaders were eventually caught. After the regrouping, nobody was able to come out of the peloton, and the decision came after a pack sprint.
As in Marcinelle, Robbie was the fastest, ahead of Bettini (Quick.Step-Innergetic) and Loddo (Sella Italia).
No change at all at the general classification, Schumacher (Gerolsteiner) keeps the pink jersey.
